Before you submit a photo to The Big Picture it’s important to be aware of the terms and conditions of submitting a photograph to the site.
It is important to note that any photo submitted to The Big Picture will automatically appear on www.flickr.com. Flickr is a reputable photo sharing website used by millions of people worldwide. What rights am I granting The Big Picture to use my photo and story?
You are granting The Big Picture the right to display the content on inthebigpicture.co.uk, flickr.com and to use them as part of the World Record Attempt artwork.
What rights do I retain in my work when I submit it to The Big Picture?
If you submit any content to or share any material with the The Big Picture (including any text, photographs) you will retain the copyright in your work. As it is a non-exclusive licence you can also continue to use your content in any way you wish including using it yourself and/or allowing others to use it.
What do I need to do when submitting material to The Big Picture?
It is important that you only submit and share your own original photographs (i.e. photographs that you have taken).
If your photograph clearly features anyone else you will need to ensure that they have consented to their image being used by The Big Picture and being featured on the website. If your photograph clearly identifies children under the age of 16 you must ensure that their parent or guardian has provided the consent set out above.
Please note that any inappropriate or offensive photographs will be rejected or taken down by The Big Picture. Images and text will be uploaded to Flickr, which has community guidelines set out here.
Will The Big Picture credit me when it uses my material?
The Big Picture website will link back Flickr – to your own photos page whenever displaying the photo above thumbnail size. It will also show the Title and your name alongside the image and text.
Will the The Big Picture contact me in relation to my photograph and story?
We may wish to contact you to ask more about your photo and story, and if we may share the information with our media partner or the press. We will not do this without your consent.
What happens when I share content with the The Big Picture via Flickr?
Any submission of your content to Flickr is subject to that website’s terms of use and privacy policy.
What do I do if I see some photographs on The Big Picture site that are offensive, inappropriate or infringing?
If you see any material on The Big Picture website that you think is offensive, infringes your or anybody else’s copyright, is defamatory or is unlawful in any way then please contact us immediately at [email protected]
If you think any content located within The Big Picture group on the Flickr website is offensive, please use any complaint tools provided by that website or let The Big Picture administrator of that group know.
