World Record Blog: Abigail Corfan, Projects and Events Officer
Abigail Corfan is Projects and Events Officer at Audiences Central (who are running the Big Picture) and is one of the team busy planning the logistics for the world’s largest photo mosaic. This immense task requires a lot of planning and even more man power!
This week I’m busy trying to recruit volunteers to help build the individual panels that make up the final mosaic. The way it will work is that all 112,896 photos are being printed onto self adhesive vinyl, and at the same time grids are being printed onto 288 plywood panels. The photos will be numbered to match the grid so that its just a process of sticking every photo in the right place. As you can imagine this is going to be time consuming so we are looking for keen Big Picture volunteers to assist with this record breaking task!
The majority of the panels are going to be assembled at Thinktank (the location of the final mosaic build) although there are other regional drop in sessions happening as well (more details). I will be at Thinktank for most of August and am hoping to have lots of volunteers come to help me build the panels (because I really can’t manage to build that many on my own!) If anyone reading this would like to volunteer please do- we need lots of help! It’s going to be really straightforward work, and you don’t need any artistic skills- just enthusiasm! If you would like to help me build panels please email [email protected].
In addition to recruiting volunteers, I’m also working on planning for the mosaic build itself, taking place on Saturday 23 August outside Thinktank. The mosaic is due to be unveiled at 2pm on that Saturday, so we’re working back from that! Tomorrow it’s exactly a month until that big moment…
